DA Regional Office will provide the inputs like seeds, highvalue crops and extension trainors while the Provincial Government of Albay will provide the MOOE. TESDA will provide short courses on non-farm entrepreneurial courses. DOLE will also provide livelihood training. DTI will provide marketing modules. Even the BSP will be asked to give training on credit application and credit habits.
4,856 farmers are in the 8km danger tilling 3,744 hectares
Modules include better use of open pollinated varieties for vegetable, rice and corn, better use of fertilizers, land preparation techniques, meat processing like tocino and use of tractorsl The province secured two tractors through counterparting with the DA which arrived in time for the evacuation.
This program will optimize the idle time in evacuation centers since this is one rare opportunity where most of the farmers are assembled since they are more difficult to group once they are back to their farms. Aside from redirecting their energies towards productive (rather than reproductive) objectives, they actually become better farmers once they return home.
Thus, this will convert a period of difficulty into an opportunity.
The training will start tomorrow Dec. 23 for Padang, Matanag, Bonga, Buyuan and Mabinit farmers- largely the most recalcitrant population segment to evacuate, thus, possibly the most difficult to hold inside.
