No-smoking campaign launched in Albay

 

            As a no-nonsense response against tobacco smoking, the Death Clock Project has been formally launched today at the PDCC Operation Center with Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda echoing his slogan “Yes to a healthier Albay” as a manifestation of support to the Picture-Based Health Warning Bill now being passed in both the Congress and the Senate.

DoH gives P4.5M for Albay P'medics Training

 

 

        The Department of Health (DoH) has approved the release of 4.5 million pesos to fund the paramedics training in the Province of Albay.

 

        Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda announced today that the DoH executive committee headed by Secretary Francisco T. Duque III gave the green light to assist Albay in its effort to train 450 paramedics for disaster response.

Albay to train 450 paramedics

        Upon the initiative of the Albay Provincial Government, the Bicol University (BU), Department of Health (DOH), the Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital (BRTTH), and the Provincial Government of Albay (PGA) will be signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to initially train 450 persons to become paramedics who will be able to effectively and immediately respond to the people in the event of a disaster.

Legazpi City, August 27, 2008—Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda cited the Province of Albay’s pioneering effort on climate change in his keynote address before hundreds of attendees of the International Energy, Climate and Food Security Conference at Sofitel Hotel, Philippine Plaza, Manila, spearheaded by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Policy Center.

        The International Geoscience Education Organization (IGEO) will hold its second International Earth Science Olympiad on August 31 – September 8, 2008. This year's host country is the Philippines, with Manila and Albay as venues for the one-week confab.

Salceda, other officials eat fish to allay fears

        LEGAZPI CITY — Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda joined officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the Department of Health (DoH) in a fish-eating demonstration to show to the public that eating fish caught in Albay is safe.

        To allay the fears of the public that fish sold in the market might have devoured the flesh of the cadavers of the victims of MV Princess of the Stars which sank off Romblon last June 21, a program was held last Monday in front of the Legazpi City public market where hundreds of fishermen and fish vendors and local government officials gathered.
